3 Day Military Diet

On Wednesday of this week I started on a diet that I found on Pinterest. It's called the 3 Day Military Diet. Basically, the idea of the diet comes from military people who use the diet to lose weight quickly. The plan says you should lose up to 10 lbs in 3 days if you follow the diet exactly! Dan did this diet a few days ago and he lost about 6 lbs and followed it exactly. Personally I think 6 lbs in 3 days is pretty good. So... I decided to give it a go. Below is the diet plan and what my thoughts and results were after 3 days.

www.blessedmommy.hubpages.com <--- original plan found here

Day 1

BREAKFAST-- 1/2 GRAPEFRUIT, 1 SLICE TOAST, 2 TBS. PEANUT BUTTER, COFFEE OR TEA

LUNCH--
1/2 CUP TUNA, 1 SLICE TOAST, COFFEE OR TEA
DINNER--
2 SLICES ANY TYPE OF MEAT (ABOUT 3 OZ), 1 CUP GREEN BEANS, 1/2 BANANA, 1 SMALL APPLE, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM
Day 2
BREAKFAST--
1 EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST, 1/2 BANANA
LUNCH--
1 CUP COTTAGE CHEESE (OR 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE), 1 HARD BOILED EGG, 5 SALTINE CRACKERS
DINNER--
2 HOT DOGS (no buns), 1 CUP BROCCOLI, 1/2 CUP CARROTS, 1/2 BANANA, 1/2 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

Day 3

BREAKFAST--
5 SALTINE CRACKERS, 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE, 1 SMALL APPLE

LUNCH--
1 HARD BOILED EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST
Oops... forgot my picture of this meal!
DINNER--
1 CUP TUNA, 1/2 BANANA, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM
Instructions
DIET WORKS ON CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN AND IS PROVEN. DO NOT VARY OR SUBSTITUTE ANY OF THE ABOVE FOODS. SALT AND PEPPER MAY BE USED, BUT DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SEASONING. DIET IS TO BE USED THREE DAYS AT A TIME.

IN THREE DAYS, YOU SHOULD LOSE 10 POUNDS. AFTER THREE DAYS OF DIETING, YOU CAN EAT YOUR NORMAL FOODS, BUT DO NOT OVER DO IT. AFTER YOUR 4 DAYS OF NORMAL EATING, START BACK ON THE 3 DAY DIET. YOU CAN LOSE UP TO 40 POUNDS IN A MONTH IF YOU STICK TO THIS DIET. IT IS A SAFE DIET.

REMEMBER: DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS!

NOTE: COFFEE OR TEA THE FIRST TWO MEALS OF DAY ONE ONLY. WATER ONLY FROM THEN ON.
Thoughts: Hot tea without any sugar is not my thing; plain tuna is not my thing; and plain cottage cheese is not my thing :) All three made my stomach turn! I never felt hungry during this diet... in fact I had to force myself to eat all my dinners most of the time. But I did feel very deprived! I craved pop and sugar so badly! To get me through my days I drank tons of water to fill me up. The number one thing I craved was Skittles! HAHA! I did lose weight, but this diet was way harder than I thought and I doubt I am able to keep off the weight I lost. I would suggest this diet for people who are days away from getting married and want to lose a few extra pounds or many when your going on vacation and want to look a little better in a swim suit. I don't think this diet is a long term solution. I wouldn't do this diet again. For the most part I felt pretty awful... very tired, horrible headaches, unable to focus my vision and achy muscles. That is just my two cents.
Results: Day 1 I lost 3 lbs; Day 2 I lost 1.5 lbs ; Day 3 I lost .5 lbs
Now I'm going to go eat some Skittles!

I HATE eggs and actually did not even know how to make one. I had to call my mom at 8:30am to ask her how to cook an egg. HA!

  2. I have a feeling the reason Mrs. Rhoton felt so terrible on this diet was because she was detoxing from high fructose corn syrup... which is in all candy and soda. I don't eat very much candy, and rarely drink pop, so I may give this a try in a few days... I've been on way worse and way stricter diets, for much longer. I'm just hoping to get a little jump start to keep me motivated.

    1. Agreed! when you are used to eating sugary foods and stuff like that...pop, cakes, cookies, chips, etc.,you are going to feel bad if you suddenly stop eating and drinking that "crap". A few more days, and you probably would have felt better and more energized....just my thoughts. Trying this on Monday....

    2. 1st day lost 2.2lbs..I am on my second day, its mid day and I am hungry and cant wait for my day#2 dinner. I am hoping I lose another 2-3 lbs. I did do 30-40min of cardio yesterday and plan to run a slow mile today. I will check back in Day #3 and let you know. I am a little worried about the little meal for lunch tomorrow but I have to just trust the diet.

  3. I tried this for the first day, I lost 3.5 LB's (probably mostly water) but I was noticeably leaner a little.

Day 2 I just felt too fatigued so I gave in and ate a chicken roll from the pizza place.

I worked out very hard the entire week before starting this diet though so the soreness combined with the feeling of malnutrition really combined and made me feel like crap so I just gave in.

Going to try this diet again after I fully recover from workouts.

  6. You had the headaches and the cravings because your body missed sugar and carbs which is natural. I have a friend that has been doing this 3 day diet every other week since May and she's down 60 pounds overall. She looks amazing. I started today. I've done weightwatchers in the past and I'm now 14 pounds away from my goal weight. We shall see what happens.

I did the 3 day diet last week thur Fri sat.and lost 9lbs, I have read there are some things you can sub, don't have the link, but do a search for 3 day military.diet substitutes and you will prob find it. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water, on day 2 I was still detoxing from sugary foods and couldn't wait to eat a brownie on Sunday, but when Sunday came and I had seen how much I lost, I wanted to continue the change, I think that's a big part if this diet, I am going to continue to do it once a week until I reach goal weight, going to lose 35-40#s

    2. Sorry to hear the bad news for you, I have no idea how anyone could not lose weight on this diet. I've been on it for a day and a half now and I've lost 4 pounds and I'll tell you its not water weight. there's no possible way you could lose only water weight from this diet with all the good fats and protein and the good simple carbs. there is a website you can go to 3 day military diet and the lady gives you all the substitutions you can use for each piece of Food. and everyone out there if you really want to blast the fat on this diet Instead of coffee take a shot glass of water and put a quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper in it, cayenne peppers a greatEst metabolic enhancer. I even emailed the lady asking the questions was It okay ,if it would alter the diets and she said absolutely not.

  8. Any "diet" that is heavily calorie restrictive will cause weight loss. Listen people, if you want REAL results, LASTING results; you actually have to change the way you eat and exercise. No secrets, no fads, just truth.

    1. Exactly....no "diet" is going to work if you do not change your eating habits. Portion control is a big thing....dont starve yourself either. Your body will start to store fat....BECAUSE ITS STARVING!!!

      Delete
    2. Amen!!! I hate all the fad crap.

      Delete
    3. I agree with your comment but this is a good way to get back into dieting...obviously you shouldn't do it if you plan on going back to normal eating habits after...as far as being heavily calorie restrictive...it really isn't...after putting the food in a calorie counter it comes out to be around 900 to 1000 calories a day which is only 200-300 below what you should be getting...so not really depriving...its a very high protein diet with barely any sugar which is why you lose weight.

      Delete
    4. If you think about it-the first three letters in diet are DIE; it is all about portion control and not snacking between meals.

  10. Hey All! Just now seeing all these comments.

I did exercise... I run at least 12-15 miles per week. Doing this diet and that took a toll on me.

In my opinion, I would rather exercise my butt off in order to eat anything I want. I'm training for a half marathon currently and I'm don't 10 lbs from when I posted this blog and I eat anything I want to :)

Good luck everyone with this diet! I hope you are finding it helpful!

  12. I wrapped up the first round of this diet last week. I only have about 7 lbs to lose, but I want it to be proper fat loss not just water so I am going to do this again starting tomorrow. I had a headache and low energy the entire three days and I could not exercise. My husband tried it with me but only made it 1 1/2 days (he's trying it again this week). I don't understand why I had this reaction because the meals are balanced and overall it's not SO low in calories (I'm pretty small so I don't usually eat more than 1300 calories daily when I'm not dieting).
I did lose 4 lbs and regained about 1 back once I started eating normally. So as of now I am three pounds down and I am more than happy with this result. Three pounds for three days is really great. If I go on a standard low fat, healthy food diet it could be over a month before I see any weight loss.
I think this is a great diet (except for the hot dogs, yuck) because it is quick and does not deprive you of any nutrients for long enough to hurt your health. I've seen a lot of ranting about this diet on the web and I think the critical reviews are unjustified and ignorant.
For the record, my friend who is an endocrinologist and works with diabetics all the time told me this diet is more than adequate for someone in good health.
My only other comment is that some of the portion sizes are not helpful. What is a slice of cheddar cheese exactly? I erred on the size of caution and made it about an ounce, but if you don't know you could easily double the calories allotted there. So a little more instruction on that end would be useful.

Good luck to all of you who are committed to losing weight.

  15. This being labeled a "military" diet is strange. If military members use this to lose weight then they're likely not exercising and eating right on a regular basis which is not healthy. As a veteran married to an active duty member, I can tell you that the real "military diet" involves as many meals as possible full of protein and high energy foods. You can't eat this much and still be affective at your job.

    3. My ex husband was give this diet by his air force recruiter. He had to lose 20 lbs. Quickly to "make weight". He was able to do it in a couple weeks and then his diet changed after he got in. He did not starve on this diet he just craved and wanted all the fatty foods he couldn't have. As far as I am concerned I believe it works. People don't know unless they try. It is all about the individual.

  17. This just seems like a bad idea.
Our bodies need much more than that to sustain regular bodily functions. Eating like this can actually lower your metabolism and cause contraindications of health in the long run. A better idea would just be have your cake and eat it too, remember to eat your vegetables & make healthy substitutions in your everyday meals. It is disappointing that people STILL fall for these things when there is so much nutrition education out there...

Maybe, maybe a tiny bit more in the way of a cup of juice or milk, but that's it. It's all about calories in, and calories out. Also, that's not hunger you are feeling, it's the hardcore cravings. My doctor recommended the diet to me about a year ago, and I have repeated it since then, excusing the holidays. I have lost a total of about 90 pounds in that year.

I don't drink soda and I don't eat a lot of sweets...I wasn't too hungry during this diet until day 3 then I wanted to go have a real small healthy meal but fought the urge. Wanted to see how true this diet was. Don't waste your time. I have lost 20 pounds with just eating every day normal stuff from a small salad plate instead of a dinner plate and I wasn't miserable. Watching your amounts of food intake and staying away from all the sugars, carbs, soda....the obvious is a better and smarter way to go.

  48. Tried this diet for the first time last week and lost 7 pounds. I did "cheat" on a few things. First, I did have coffee each morning with some creamer. Second, I did put a very thin layer of "can't believe it's not butter" on my toast. Just couldn't eat dry toast...yuck! I also waited for a while after dinner before having my ice cream. It helped to have a "treat" later in the night. All in all, I would so it was not that bad. The hardest part was being bored! Without having my Starbucks or eating out, I felt like I was counting the minutes until my next meal. I found it easier to eat breakfast around 9 or 10. Then have a later lunch around 1 or 2. Then by 6 or 6:30 I was really hungry for dinner.
I am drinking lots of water in between each meal to help keep from feeling too hungry. I am on day 2 of my next go around and not feeling too bad..... Hope I can lose another 7 or maybe more this time.
p.s. I found this on Pinterest, and all the directions are listed including portion sizes and substitutions......thanks!!!

Repack size is 2oz but that should be ok. Picked up presliced cheddar also. Easy. So far the first meal is filling. Usually just have a cup of coffee. I agree with everyone who says if you take away calories your going to loose the weight.

  55. 146: Day 2 went as smoothly as yesterday. I was never starving but had cravings. Drank alot of Lipton tea today instead of water. The worst part was the cottage cheese. Just could not force myself to eat it. Again peeing all evening. More water weight? Last day tomorrow. Going to start up again on Friday. I have all this food I purchased. Good Hint: Don't buy multiples of items. You only eat a limited amount of food.

  56. I'm going to start my diet today and being five foot four I really need to drop at least fifty pounds. I'm 180 and you can really tell I should be a lot smaller. I can't handle being this big. Hopefully it works.

  57. 144: Day 3. Excited about the weight loss. Will have my first meal for about an hour.

  58. I did this diet a few days before xmas, hoping to offset xmas.new year gain ;).
I lost 2.3kgs (5lb) which I was happy with, and guess what I have kept it off over the past 4 weeks.
So I am doing it again starting today... hopefully same result as last time. I didn't exercise during my last one, will try to go for a walk at least 2 times this time.

  59. 144: The day flew by. Work kept me busy and my meals today seemed small but I didn't crave anything. Looking forward to my weight in tomorrow. Will start the diet again on Friday. Wonder how much I'll gain in 3 the days of normal eating. I think I lost my snacking habit? Huge Plus to this diet.

    ReplyDelete
  60. 143.8: Giving myself 4.5 lbs loss. Great results for 3the days. I will check back in on Friday to see how much I've gained in 3 days. Will start the diet again at that time. Don't plan to gi crazy these next few days but not going to miss out having lunch with my girlfriends today either. This morning breakfast was day 1 breakfast. I need to start eating a little breakfast everyday. My splurge meal will be dinner. Pasta, Burgers, what ever I make for the family "I will eat ". Til Friday.

  61. I need to lost 7 lbs. I will be starting this tomorrow and will not weight myself til the middle of the 2nd day. I really hope this works and still allows me to have energy to exercise.

    1. In place of cottage cheese you can have 1 slice of Cheddar cheese(2oz)

  63. I have a back injury and can't get off my couch for more than a couple minutes right now (hence the need to diet). Many doctor have tried to figure out the problem, but it looks like I'm stuck like this for a few months waiting for an additional test. So, maybe it's my need for fewer calories right now, but I'm not having these horrible side effects that people are posting about. I'm on day 2 and was kind of shocked to see no more tea, but I usually only drink 1 a day so I should be fine. This diet is working great for me. I refuse to weigh until the end of it, but can see some differences in my abs already. I would highly recommend this diet, as it does include all the nutrient you need and gets the taste of sugary foods out of your mouth for a few days (except the ice cream, I really don't understand that part). Bottom line, unless you're really active and this just isn't enough calories for you, this diet shouldn't make you feel horrible unless you need a major change in your daily eating habits. If that's the case, then this is a good way to get that ball rolling. If you're reading this to determine if this is for you; give it a try and ignore the negative reviews!

  64. I've seen alot of posts about substitutions. This diet is very specifically formulated, and you should not substitute anything if you expect results. That's the whole point of the diet. It's not based on calories. If you can't tolerate the foods, you should just choose a different diet to try. Hot chocolate is not a substitute for plain tea or coffee! lol! The diet works because of the specific combinations of foods, in those exact amounts. I've used it alot over the years, and it's worked for me. I don't lose as much on it now that in my forties, but I still lose 4-5 pounds. It's likely called the military diet because it was very popular for awhile for the fellas that were later in their military career and had to drop a quick 10 pounds before meeting the weight requirements at re-enlistment time. Good luck everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  65. So...I did this diet for the 3 days with no substitutions..I lost 8 to 8.5lbs (depending on how my scale is feeling lol) but I just wonder if

#1 you have to wait 4 days to start again and can you go longer than 3 days in a row? #2 I am a male, do I need to worry about muscle loss??

fyi.. I only exercised the first day...

  66. This is my last day..can't believe I did it. I weight 119lbs at 5'1". Don't look so great on a swim suit. Hopes this helps. I would like to be back at 105lbs. Weight in tomorrow.

  67. 146.5: It's friday and I'm starting my 2nd week. I gained 2.5 lbs in 3 days. I'll admit I have been eating more than my share. Ravioli w/french bread, french fries, & a rice bowl from Panda Express. Do this diet for no other reason than to know you can eat healthy eat less and feel better about your food intake. So all this said, I've kept off 2lbs. Super Bowl is going to be the hardest but I can do it ! Til Monday to see how much more I've lost.

  69. 142.4: 2 week completed. 4 lbs lost. Yesterday was the hardest day by far. Not because of the superbowl? My stomach grumbled all evening and went to bed and woke up this morning hungry. Going back to day 1 breakfast. For myself, this diet works. Almost back to 140 lbs. Week 3 starts Thursday. I still have a stock pile of canned tuna, green beans & Turkey Hotdogs. I just realized this morning. The diet, you don't eat any carbs after lunch. Great thing to remember. Until Thursday. You can do this diet! I prefer hot coffee & tea to cold water : )

I'm a healthy person and eat a pretty healthy diet....no pop or junk for the most part, but I'm a stay at home mom and live a sedentary lifestyle (as much as one can with 4 children, 3 under the age of 3) aka, I'm lazy! I'm 5'2" and weigh 144 according to one of my scales and 152 according to the other lol. I'm thinking the higher one is likely closer to being accurate. anyway, I would like to get down to 105-110....wish me luck :)

  83. I did the diet last week. I lost 5 pounds  the only cheat was a few more black coffees and green teas that I shouldn’t of had (not many). Otherwise followed it to the T. I didn’t exercise. I have eaten normally for the past 4 days (carbs and treats included) and I haven’t put a pound on! Im shocked and so happy, yay  So I am back at day 1. This time I am only having my one black coffee and tea today like I am supposed to and I am exercising two days out of 3 (curves 30 minute circuit training). Very interested to see the end result this week! Good Tip- if like me you’re a tea and coffee addict I have been drinking boiled water from the kettle as replacement. It does the trick for my cravings of a hot drink- tea especially as this is a comfort of mine being English!

  84. I've been on this diet for about 6 weeks. The first week was horrible!!! I felt like was I being starved and I was really tired and weak. In all from losing on the 3 days and gaining on the 4 days, I've lost a total of 9lbs. I was ready to give up but noticed my waistline significantly smaller! I've gone down almost 2 pant sizes and about 5 inches around my waist! That's a huge deal for me because I usually lose from other parts of my body but not my stomach. It's gotten a lot easier sticking to this diet as the weeks go by. I just wish the scale would go down too, but I'm sure it's because I do substitute.

    ReplyDelete
  85. That is amazing you have lost so many inches  Im glad you have said you feel weak too, I feel really drained and this is week 2! Im sure I didn’t feel this bad in week 1! I said in my last comment I was going to exercise 2 out of 3 days but had no energy what so ever last night. its freezing at the moment too and after a long day at work its hard! Went to bed at 10pm last night but have still woken feeling the same although I now think I may be coming down with something! It’s annoying I can’t take my normal multi vitamins etc. Apart from feeling ill which I now think is completely separate! Im looking forward to day 2- like every meal today  I have cheddar at lunch rather than cottage cheese though, that stuff is horrid! Have a good day guys! xx

  88. Hi! I just finished my dinner for night 3 and I have to say, it's been a really good 3 days. No headaches or starvation. 3 things I have done completely wrong: 1. because of my work schedule, I have been waking up late and having breakfast at 12pm or after..., 2. I added a teaspoon of garlic and a bit of oil to my green beans to cook them, 3. I forgot to weight myself before I started. I know more or less my weigh but I wanted it to be accurate. Any suggestions or comments on whether or not these things will affect the result and any tips for next week? I am definitely starting it back. I wanted to try it out before I incorporated excersice. And this time I AM weighting and measuring myself to make sure I track my weight loss!

  89. I just finished this diet on Wednesday. I had been working out the prior 2 weeks almost every day and had lost 3lbs. I lost 8lbs in the 3 days. It was hard but I stuck to it. After dinner the 2nd day is when the "cleanse" effect kicked in. It was was worth seeing a few extra numbers come off of the scale. Will be watching what I eat and trying maybe day 1 & 2 of the diet if I have to again, I was very weak day 3 and had no energy. Good luck to all!

  105. Today is my first day so far so good. Drinking coffee without anything in it is tough but I'm ok :) instead of Tuna I read I can have cottage cheese so I measured 1/2 cup of that with my toast. I hope I read it right. I look foward to dinner later. I have been drinking my water as well.

  106. Two meals in and loving this diet. A hint for those that might be looking for some extra's. You can buy Pepperidge Farms thin sliced bread..whole wheat or white. Three pieces equal one serving of a regular slice of bread. I used two for breakfast and two for lunch. Actually made a sandwich out of the tuna. So far no hunger issues. Looking at the menu, I won't be worried until the third night. That dinner sounds really small. Anyway, so far, so good!

  113. I'm just finishing up day 2 and have seen great results! I havent had any headaches, I haven't been tired or sore. I like this diet and Im great when it come to discipline. On day two, Ive lost a total of 5 pounds. :-)

  114. I read somewhere that this diet works best for people who are pretty over weight and need to lose 20+ pounds...not sure how true that is but w/e.

I have been just counting my calories (staying around 1200 a day) for about 10 days now and I have lost 8 pounds. (not to shabby)

I am a very impatient person and if I don't see really good results right away/for a while I tend to give up.

I saw this on pinterest and did some pokeing around to learn more and see if it was healthy ect.

I learned that if you eat less than normal for over 72 hours your body starts to release a hormone thinking it's "starving" and you start storeing all the calories you eat instead of losing...which is why its 3 days off 4 days on.. other than that it is supposed to be perfectly fine you are still getting everything your body needs.

I saw a site that broke down every day and told you the reason you are eating each food..but I don't remember the site.

Anyways I have decided to give it a go... it's only three days and if I lose 10 pounds that would be awesome if I lose less or none then oh well it will be a good laugh. I really doubt I will be gaining any weight while doing it so no worries.

I was going to do it with my mom but she is out getting a burger with my grandmother -__- so that tells you how she felt about it haha.

But I am nearing the end of the first day..

It's not as horrible as I thought it would be. The worst part for me was the grapefruit (first time trying one = not a fan Lol.)

I ate breakfast at 10:30 (sleeping in)
    .5 grapefruit
1 slice of Daves Killer Bread with
2 tablespoons of peanut butter on top and
    1 cup of green tea

In between breakfast and lunch I drank a giant size cup of ice water (probably a McDonalds large sized soda cup...slowly of course)

    I wasn't hungry at all!

Then I at the lunch around 3..3:30
    1 cup of green tea
1 slice of Daves killer Bread and
    .5 cup tuna
(Note: I toasted my bread slightly then cut it in half. I didn't completely drain all of the water from my tuna..I didn't want it too dry. I put the tuna on the bread like a sandwich)

Again I had a giant glass of ice water in between meals and have not been hungry at all.

I am about to eat the dinner within this hour 7:30 to 8:30

I am the type of person that also likes to eat a few bites when I go into the kitchen for absolutely no reason! So I have been staying as far away from it as possible. I make my meal as fast as I can and I take it completely out of the kitchen area to eat..that way I'm not tempted to reach my little hand out there and grab something that I don't even need.

I'm doing this as more of a self experiment, and if it works I'll cheer, not really as a true way of diet.

I still believe that counting calories will help anyone and everyone that does this and wants to keep the weight off will need to learn how to do so. Otherwise all your "pain" and "suffering" will have been for nothing.

I have been using a free site that tells you how many calories you should eat a day based on how much you excersize a day, your height, your weight, and your goal weight..ect. It lets you track your food, calories, excersize, weight, body measurements, moods, ect.)

It is called fitday.com and it has been working great for me..it has an app for the IPhone as well.

There are also lots of free apps on the android phones too. Just search top free Calorie counter.

ANYWAYS I wish everyone the best of luck on their weightloss journey and don't forget whether it's only 3 pounds or ten pounds it is still closer than where you were before!!!

  115. Just ate the dinner.

    3 ounces of chicken
    1 cup of green beans
    .5 banana
    1 apple

I cut up my meat and cut my green beans in half or fourths depending on the size..eat each one by one slower than you normally would..it made me chew more than usual and it took more time making me feel like I was eating more.

I also cut up my banana and then I cut up my apple into small chunks. I heated my apple chunks in the microwave and poured them and the banana on my cup of ice cream...you should have seen me pack as much as possible in that 1 cup...haha..anyways once it was all in the bowl I was wondering how the heck I was going to eat it all. It looked like so much!!

I am stuffed! Which is really crazy to say because that was definently not as much food as I would have eaten any other day.

I also drank another giant glass of ice water with it...that may be why I am so full.

  119. I also started this 2 days ago and wrapping up the third day. The headaches have been almost unbreable but I figure it is due to the amount of soda and sugar I had in my diet before starting. Time to get it all out.
I did sneak to the scale this morning and found I have only lost 1 pound so far, but if anything I learned that I don't have to have a huge lunch or dinner to feel satisfied. Hoping to see a better number on the scale tomorrow.

  120. I currently weigh in at 360lbs on my 5'10 frame so I plan to use this diet as a diving board, if you will, into a lifetime of eating right. I plan to use this for 10 weeks (3 days on, 4 days off) as a detox from all the sugary goodies and junk food my body and taste buds have come to love. I don't believe in fad diets (as I have tried many in the past) but I look forward to using this as a stepping to a new and improve life for myself.

  122. 159 from 161...day two. Today was tougher than day one. Starving today. I didn't drink as much water today as yesterday, which is probably why I'm hungrier today. Had a cup of coffee anyway this morning...along with Advil for the headache. Looking forward to getting on the scale tomorrow!

  123. I am just starting this today. It doesn't seem like a big deal of difference from how people should normally eat. The meals seem pretty balanced, except the idea of having a cup of ice cream every day doesn't sound so healthy. Overloading on sugar and fats at night worry me a bit. I know that having a protein shake before bed can actually promote weight loss.

Cutting down meal portions and fasting for one day a week would have a similar effect! I'm up to try anything though... and all of these meals look delicious. I'll just miss my salads.

    Thank you for posting this.

  124. I started this diet the first week of February and am currently down 32 pounds. It does work. I do it M-W every week and then eat sensibly the next 4. Nothing crazy. Its training you to eat better and think about what you are eating, thats how it is for me anyway. I do exercise everyday as well, and all in all I am seeing the results I was hoping for! I average close to 5 pounds a week....was hoping for 10 like it claims but honestly that is a little unrealistic i think. I'll take 5 though! Good luck, it does work! :) e

  126. ***Day four, 157.4 from 161. Total of 3.6 lbs lost. Not too bad. I will continue this diet again next week with a few changes. I'm taking out the hot dogs and ice cream to replace with healthier choices. I think I could handle the restricted calorie intake on a daily basis. Honestly, it was not that difficult as long as I was drinking water all day long....at least 160 ounces.

  129. I started this diet yesterday ( wednesday). I weighed myself yesterday morning before beginning. I followed the diet to a T and when I weighed in this morning, I had lost 6 lbs. I am on day 2 right now and I feel fine. If I get hungry I drink water and it curves my cravings. Tomorrow is the 3rd day, which looking at the menu tomorrow looks like it is going to be extremly hard but I was able to turn down pizza today so I know with will power I will get through tomorrow. I plan on doing this diet every wednesday thursday and friday until beginning of may to see what happens. The diet is suppose to be an average of 40 lbs lost in a month, we will see. Good luck every one.

  134. I have been doing this diet since beginning of January.
I love that I have finally found a diet that moves the weight off!! Literally!!! I have done weight watchers, calorie counting, you name it, I've probably tried it.
This is the ONLY diet I have been able to stick to, and come out with amazing results every time! I did 3 weeks in a row (3 on, 4 off) and then I took 2 weeks off. After that I did another 2 weeks and 2 weeks off. I have not gained back any weight, I just calorie counted on my days off. I exercise moderately 3 -4 days a week.
I average about 5-6 lbs of weight loss in each 3 day increment. I haven't lost this much weight ever!
I have lost 27lbs and dropped 2 sizes almost 3.
I am half way to my goal weight!!
I cannot wait til summer!! Yay!!!

  135. Has anyone been substituting their coffee or tea with sugar free redbull? It says u can substitute coffee with that bc it has no sugars and a lot of caffeine. I like redbull... hate coffee and tea... only thing about sugar free anything is the aspartame used in replace as the sweetener... but I won't be drinking it much other than on day 1 each week.

I am currently eating my lunch as I type this. I feel that this is a great diet. If you can pull through day 1 then you might as well go ahead with day 2 & 3.

  139. Hey all! I am starting this plan today! I am excited ! I have been reading a lot about it on here and it sounds like there are pretty positive results. So I will blog myself and let you know how I did! My name is Jessica and I am 32, I currently weigh 269. I have been on lots of diets, everything you name it. I was 186 back in 2006 and had two kids and never had the chance to lose it back again. I am looking to this plan for more of a jump start to build confidence and get back on the right track. I will let you know my progress….

  140. This is my first day of my third week on the military diet. I do it tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. So far I have lost 14 pounds and have been following the diet EXACTLY while moderately working out 3-4 days a week. I get a little hungry, but I just drink water and I'm fine. I don't like tea, tuna, or hard boiled eggs but I've been pushing through it because I want results. I can see the difference on my body and have not had any withdrawls, dizziness, or feeling extremely tired since I've started. It's really mind over matter. I'm so proud of everyone's great progress and I hope it continues! To anyone trying this: you can do it! It's only three days, although you do have to watch what you eat the other four days. If you go overboard you may just gain it all back. Good luck :)

  142. I started this diet on Sunday, 4/28, and I'm in day 3 and only lost a pound. I don't understand how most of the people lost 5-10 lbs in the 3 days. I'm now convinced that my hypothyroidism medication is preventing me from losing weight. Unless by some miracle I lose a ton tonight (which I highly doubt). Disappointed.

  143. So after reading ALL of the comments and doing my own research I really am excited to try this. I'm a 23 year old female, 5'11 and currently weigh 148. I know that's not bad, I started my HEALTHY LIFESTYLE a month and a half ago by eating right and working out (which lets face it, is the best and guaranteed way to lose and keep off the weight) I still believe that 'fasting' or 'cleansing' your body is still good for you! I'm going to Vegas in 11 days and want to get down to 140 or less because I personally don't feel satisfied with my body right now. I know I can stick with my 2hr. per day workouts and 1500 calorie diet and still be hovering between 147-151 pounds (which is where its been for the past month) but I believe this will give me a boost to my desired weight. Lets face it, we all want to lose weight and feel comfortable and satisfied when we look into the mirror. Anyways, I read that this diet will not do much for people who already eat low calories and are healthy or that are not obese or overweight.. Well personaly I believe that if I do not try it for myself than I will never know how it'll effect ME regardless of what others have experienced.. SO for all of you out there who are like me and clearly do not HAVE to lose weight but WANT to shed a few pounds, I am going to start with my day 1! I will update with new results.

  144. I started this diet today. I normally don't eat very much and I limit carbs and sugars but I just hit a plateau and couldn't budge! I am starting at 181lbs this morning at 5'5" (I'm muscular so I don't look nearly that heavy!) My goal is to lose at least 5 lbs every week until I can get down to 150. I start to look way too skinny if I am less than that. Today wasn't too bad. Getting ready to have the first night dinner! I have been using my treadmill every day for the past two days as well! Off to a good start!

  145. So im on day three i did some substitutions and iv had no weight loss at all. Im also constipated. Did the substitutions cause me not to loose any weight? Also i have found conflicting info about grapefruit substitution. I did water n 1/2 tap of baking soda. Was it supposed to be 1/2 tbsp?

  147. I am 46 and will be 47 in November. I currently weigh 130lbs and I'm 4'11.5. My frame is obviously small and suffering carrying around this extra fat. I know this diet works because I did it 3 years ago for about 3 weeks and went from 138 to 128lbs after doing this diet for 2weeks. Inreally kept the weight off with a few fluctuations. The problem is that I look good in my clothes, but when I get undressed I don't like what I see. Physically, I can run, speed walk, jump rope, Hoola hoop, play tennis without distress. I know that I can feel even better and be even more active with these pounds off. I'm a nurse and know the problems that can come about from extra weight. I'm not tryi g to be rail thin

    1. I'm the 46 year old from above. I also wanted to say to those of you who find delight in saying mean things to people, can you please just stop. Do you really want to have a share in making other people miserable. Does it really make you feel good to say mean things to people. Inreally hope that you are not parents because this is not the behavior to pass on to your kids. Now let's be nice to each other and pass that on eh......make a positive difference everytime you open your mouth or type for that matter.....Make it a great day.......

  148. on my third day. it's 4pm and I'm already ready for dinner. don't have a scale, so I won't know lbs lost, but I can see a difference in stomach, and that's pretty significant seeing as I'm PMS-sing and bloated. I'm going to do this every week until I drop 20 lbs.

  151. Hi Kendra. I read that you hated all those main foods on which is this diet based. I do not know whether you know this site or not, but here: http://theslimdonkey.com/the-military-diet-getting-skinny-with-unbelievable-3-day-method/ is very informational article that has even list substitutions for almost each and every food from official meal-plan of this diet. Maybe it will be helpful for you if you will change your mind and decide to try this diet again.

    I wish you luck!

  155. The best diet to lose weight for you will generally be one that you can stick with in the long term without too much suffering. If you find yourself miserable or hungry all the time while you are on a diet, then it is not the right diet for you. Visit my webpage to get more.

  157. Has anyone tried doing this diet for more than three days? I am asking because I need to lose thirty pounds to make a weight class as fast as I possibly can... I wonder if I can speed the process up by cutting down on the four days off. Also, for those of you who advocate the diet, would you say you lost weight in fat?
